3 Roam’s Quirks: ((hidden text)), {{or: }} and LaTeX

Roam Research is constantly being developed and many new exciting features are being added with every new version. Many of these features are really useful, yet they are also sometimes unpolished, a little bit weird and their behaviour is sometimes not exactly what would be expected. In this article we will look at three such cases.

((hidden text))

On the first sight, this is a great feature! Simply type something into (( )) and click to open it or close it:

What is interesting here and quirky:

  • you can write #tag inside
  • you cannot write [[page]] inside

The thing that makes it really a dealbreaker for me is that #tags within (( )) are not being registered in the document. What do I mean? They simply don’t exist from the point of view of your graph.

  • You cannot filter them
  • You don’t see them as Linked references on the bottom of the page (only as Unlinked references)
  • You cannot query them
