My Curse of Contrarianism

Finding the middle way or hubris?

I have an unstoppable tendency: When I hear a statement or an idea, I want to oppose them! Of course, I don’t oppose everything all the time. I would never be against the true Viennese Tafelspitz!

However, come to me from the right-wing perspective of the need to support Israel in its fight for existence and I might give you a lecture about the apartheid/hafrada system there. Tell me about Palestinian victims and I will explain to you how Hamas is a terroristic organisation.

Tell me about how transwomen are women and — while I would agree with you (!) — I would also add that humans are a dimorphic species and that one has to be cautious about letting transwomen into sports. Tell me that transwomen are men and that we should be cautious about letting them into sports and I will explain to you that there is a strict regulation regarding transwomen in sports and that your worries are unsubstantiated.

Defend Ma’Khia Bryant and I will think that you damage BML cause. Tell me that Ma'Khia Bryant deserved to die and I will point out problems in the USA foster care system. I will do it even though I am not an American and frankly I don’t know so much about it. Well, I think you get the point.
