Roam and My Fear Of Missing Out

Between January 2021 and April 2021, I haven’t written anything on Medium about Roam or any other topic. The work was the main reason, writing blocks are real the secondary one. When I returned back to the Roam community, I was really surprised by all changes that happened meantime.

There are so many new options! I feel reasonably comfortable with CSS about which I wrote a long series here. However, what everything has been added meanwhile? To name a few:

  • Roam code obtained new various data- attributes that allow for new and wonderful custom CSS.
  • The powerful universal metaplugin by RoamHacker, roam42 obtained Workbench! A way how to manipulate blocks.
  • David Vargas seems to produce a new roam/js extension every week (or more?).
  • There is roam/render! A way how to program custom components for Roam directly in Clojure.
  • The Roam scene seems to be more and more professionalized and the whole ecosystem is being built around Roam.

I missed definitely many things! To be honest, I am not sure whether I can keep the pace. I am already quite behind regarding JavaScript in Roam, not speaking about Clojure. On the other hand, does it really matter? Isn’t that just FOMO — fear of missing out — that actually is not important?
